A new citizen-led initiative is calling for urgent action to address what it describes as a growing crisis in local healthcare access.

Cochrane Residents for Family Physicians was formed this summer to advocate for equitable access to primary care and to prioritize the recruitment and retention of family doctors willing to work both in family medicine and the emergency room.

“Our community is facing a critical need for improved access to primary care; a need that affects a significant number of us,” the group said in a statement. “This lack of access is not just a problem, but an urgent issue that requires immediate attention.”

The initiative is currently led by eight committee members, but organizers stress participation is open to all residents.
