Canadian author Margaret Atwood penned a satirical short story “suitable” for teens over the weekend in response to the Edmonton school board following a government directive to crack down on sexually explicit material for students. The directive was paused Tuesday afternoon.

In an emailed statement to National Post, Alberta Education Minister Demetrios Nicolaides confirmed that he would be directing school boards to pause the order until further notice.

“After becoming aware of a list of over 200 books that Edmonton Public Schools intended to remove off their shelves, I will be revising the order immediately to ensure that our classic literary works remain in school libraries, while books with graphic pornographic images, such as those depicted below, do not end up in the hands of child
