Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell showed up in the historic Ballard neighborhood Tuesday to proclaim to city residents and politicians in three counties: Don’t even consider halting voter-approved light rail lines to Ballard and West Seattle.

Harrell is setting a tone for Sound Transit’s internal reckoning during the next year, as the agency rethinks not only construction costs, but also how to reduce frequent light rail stalls and its mediocre 80% on-time performance. Everything is on the table, agency CEO Dow Constantine says.

“We must deliver in the densest communities with the greatest ridership,” Harrell declared, in support of the two city extensions. “It’s almost Econ 101. Go where the action is, go where the jobs are.”
