SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - A follow up to a story that we have covered for years . The former owners of Springfield Gardens properties may soon have to pay and forgive millions of dollars in alleged unpaid rent.

Tuesday, the Attorney General’s Office announced that they reached a $10 million settlement, with Schweb Partners LLC, the real estate company who formerly owned and operated 62 Springfield Gardens apartment buildings.

Schweb purchased the 62 properties between 2020 and 2024, quickly becoming one of Springfield’s largest landlords, renting to over a thousand tenants. If approved by the court, the settlement would resolve allegations that Schweb violated various consumer protection and landlord-tenant laws, leading to unsafe, and unlawful living conditions.
