Lawmakers in Oklahoma are meeting to study food dyes and their health impacts across the state.

Oklahoma State senators are looking at how the food additives impact public health, the state's workforce and agriculture.

Sen. Kristen Thompson (R-Edmond) is leading the interim study and tried to pass a bill earlier this year that would have banned 21 additives.

"Why are these other harmful chemicals banned in other countries, but in America, where we have some of the highest healthcare spending, they're still allowed?" Thompson said.

Thompson's bill stalled in the Senate, but will be heard again in the upcoming session.
