LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - Ingham County leaders are backing a new legal clinic program to provide immigrants with critical legal support.

The clinic will be hosted at the Refugee Development Center in Lansing and will bring together the Michigan Immigrant Rights Center (MIRC) and Michigan State University’s Immigration Law Clinic.

Commissioner Chris Trubac said the program reflects the county’s commitment to helping families seeking a better life. “I believe we need to advocate for people who want to come and make a better life here,” Trubac said.

The first year of the clinic will be a pilot run, focused on funding an attorney and paralegal who can offer one-on-one consultations and community workshops. Ana Devereaux with MIRC said the goal is to make legal help as accessible as other day
