LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Community reaction is pouring in after the Labor Day crash that left a 12-year-old girl dead and her mother and sibling fighting for their lives.

The Kentucky chapter of the Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) was founded more than 40 years ago. Lois Windhorst started it because her parents-in-law were killed by an impaired driver.

The Gene Snyder Freeway is a stretch Windhorst knows all too well.

“I’ve been on it quite a bit because one of my daughters moved out to that area,” she pointed out. “It’s not real steady, it’s bumpy, it doesn’t have holes, but it’s wavy. People go fast, even in the daytime, and I literally quit using it because I’d seen two impaired driving crashes. I wouldn’t even use it after dark. I’m not going on it.”
