NEWARK, Ohio — Two people were hospitalized after a house fire in Newark Tuesday evening, according to the city's fire department Deputy Chief Doug Vermaaten.

First responders were called to a home in the 200 block of Buckingham Street around 6:30 p.m.

Photos from a 10TV photographer at the scene show a house with significant fire damage, as well as damage to a structure next door.

Vermaaten said two people were transported to the hospital. Their conditions are unknown at this time.

There was a large fire personnel presence at the scene, according to Vermaaten, who said 54 firefighters responded.

It's unclear what caused the fire.
