MILWAUKEE (WKOW) -- An elephant at the Milwaukee County Zoo needed assistance Tuesday after being unable to get up on her own.
Ruth, who had been on the ground for more than an hour, was helped to her feet with the aid of a front-end loader padded with hay, according to zoo officials.
Our Milwaukee affiliate was there when Ruth got up and walked.
Ruth was born in 1981 and came to Milwaukee in 2006 from the Gladys Porter Zoo in Texas.
The elephant habitat was temporarily closed to the public during the incident but reopened by the afternoon.
