BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- The town of Shafter is filled with businesses, schools and restaurants.
What is cutting the city in half? That has been top of mind for Shafter residents after two recent railroad incidents have rocked the community.
"It's very tragic. As a father, if this is an issue...it’s a major concern," says new Shafter resident, Jorge Dominic Figueroa. "My son could be out here. I don’t want that to happen to my son or for the community.”
Back in mid-May, a Shafter High School student was struck by a train and left in serious condition. The most recent incident in the town at the railroad crossing occurred on Saturday around 1:45 p.m.
