WILLISTON, Vt. (ABC22/FOX44) - On Tuesday night, members of the Williston Selectboard considered three options for a pedestrian boardwalk that has been closed for nearly two years, saying they do not know how likely it is that the bridge will survive the winter.
The Allen Brook Nature Trail in the east of Williston was built in 1997 through mixed forest and wetland. The town calls it "ideal for nature study or quiet contemplation." However, flooding in December 2023 along with damage from beaver activity led to the closure of the bridge/boardwalk that connects the bridge to its main trailhead behind Williston Central School.
The Selectboard previously approved $50,000 in funding to replace the bridge, and has been working with Engineering Ventures to design the replacement.
