During his summer break, the Jimmy Kimmel Live ! host appeared on the Sarah Silverman Podcast , and among a variety of topics, touched upon the state of politics in the United States and how celebrities having been leaving the country amid President Donald Trump ‘s second term. “I did get Italian citizenship,” Kimmel told Silverman. “I do have that.” He added, “What’s going on is… as bad as you thought it was going to be, it’s so much worse. … I think it’s probably even worse than he would like it to be.” Although Kimmel did not cite Trump’s presidency for getting his Italian citizenship, Trump allies and conservative media fueled rumors that the comedian was leaving the country.
