The City of Dothan is preparing to implement a new vape tax following recent authorization by the Alabama Legislature. The tax will amount to 10 cents per milliliter of vape fluid and is scheduled to take effect in December, 60 days after its formal enactment later this month. Additionally, the city has established a business license requirement for vendors selling vape products.
City Manager Randy Morris emphasized the importance of acting while the opportunity was available.
“We wanted to take the opportunity to get this revenue stream while we had the chance,” Morris said.
Vape cartridges typically hold 0.5 to 1.0 milliliters of e-liquid; standard bottles hold 10 milliliters.
