Wood River High School’s girls soccer team played its first two fall games against fellow 2024 girls soccer state tournament teams Idaho Falls and Middleton, kicking off its 2025 season as a little fish in a big pond.

“We wanted to start off with more challenging teams,” said Wolverines head coach Tanner Riley of the two nonconference opponents. “It lets you know where you’re at in the big picture.”

Though the Wolverines suffered a tough 6-1 loss at Idaho Falls on Tuesday, Aug. 26, they bounced back Thursday and kept things close against Middleton. However, two late goals lifted Middleton to a 2-0 victory at Hailey’s Founders Field.

“We played well,” Riley said. “That matters. It was unlucky we got scored on twice near the end.”
