ATLANTA — A man first identified as a shooting victim in Atlanta’s Sweet Auburn neighborhood is now behind bars, facing felony charges.

Darryl Seymour, 38, was one of three people shot on July 26 near Edgewood Avenue. For weeks, police records listed him as a victim of aggravated assault. But on Aug. 14, investigators charged him with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

His mother, Jamie Wells, says the shift has left her family stunned.

“The first thing that went through my mind was, is he dead or alive? Just tell me he’s still alive,” Wells said, recalling the moment she rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital after learning her son had been shot five times.
