Houston-area residents likely will see increased charges on their next round of electricity bills.
CenterPoint Energy, which supplies power to much of the region, increased its electricity rate by nearly 1.5 cents per kilowatt-hour on Sept. 1 as part of a twice-per-year adjustment.
The new rate has increased from 4.4393 to 5.7889 cents per kWh, according to a CenterPoint spokesperson. Before the new rate increase, the average bill for a home using 1,000 kWh would be approximately $49.29. After the rate increase, the average bill for a home using 1,000 kWh would be $62.79.
This increase in the charge for electricity transmission and delivery is on top of the energy rate customers pay to their electricity providers.
