ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — The Rockford City Council voted against a housing development that would have created 180 duplexes at a meeting on September 2.

The project would have built apartments along Fincham Drive, White Chapel Lane, Mill Road, and Highgrove Place, near the Perryville Crossings retail center.

Investor and realtor Luke Salamone, who is in partnership with NBA star and Rockford native Fred VanVleet, said they both still have plans for the city.

"Rockford has been in a significant housing shortage. We need thousands of homes in this area, and this would just be a drop in the bucket," Salamone explained. "We have plans to revamp our downtown building next to City Hall and put two staple businesses there that will hopefully revamp energy that has not been entertained."
