HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - On this day in 1966, President Lyndon Johnson and his wife Lady Bird Johnson spoke at the dedication of the Summersville Reservoir.

The creation of the dam and lake cost $46 million.

It was designed to control flooding through the Ohio River Basin.

At that time, they pointed out that lake would hold enough water to supply 300 gallons of water for every man, woman, and child in the United States.
