ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford fireman Mike Schnaper said he wants parents to be aware of dangerous trends on social media.
The fireman said he heard about a 12-year-old in Texas who was involved in a fire-related incident. Schnaper said the child was trying to imitate activities seen on TikTok.
"The good news is the kid is alive," said Schnaper. "He's alive because his brother actually wrapped him up in a blanket, and performed stop, drop, and roll, which is what we teach people to catch fire."
Schnaper emphasized the importance of parental supervision over children's social media use, noting that kids aged 13 to 17 spend about five hours a day on social media, often unsupervised.
