JOHNSON COUNTY, Kan. (KCTV) - A Shawnee police officer has been found to have acted “lawfully” and “justified” when he shot at a Lenexa man who is now charged with attempted capital murder.
According to a memo from the Johnson County District Attorney’s Office, Isaac Oritz , 19, was arrested on June 17, 2025, after exchanging gunfire with a Shawnee police officer.
Earlier that morning, he had allegedly taken a 9mm handgun and a truck from his friend without permission.
Within an hour, a concerned citizen called the police to report that Oritz was stopped at the intersection of 67th and Lackman. Oritz told the citizen that the truck wouldn’t move, but refused his help.
By the time the first Shawnee officer arrived, documents state, Oritz had fired the gun out of the truck’s window. He
