MACON, Ga. — The Powerball jackpot has climbed to $1.4 billion ahead of Wednesday night's jackpot, but that doesn't mean a Peach State winner would automatically become a billionaire.
If a lottery player in Georgia gets lucky on Wednesday, MegaUSA.com — which runs Powerball — says the player could take home either $810,629,395 or $366,731,810, depending on how they choose to receive the funds.
Lottery players have two options: an annuity which is paid out over 30 years or an upfront cash payment. The cash payment, however, pays out less money.
If they take the annuity, which would be 30 payments averaging $27 million, MegaUSA says the player would receive $810,629,400 out of the $1.4 billion jackpot.
