Mercedes CEO Toto Wolff said he was facing a tough decision regarding the team's driver lineup as Lewis Hamilton's contract was set to expire after the 2025 season.
Hamilton reached an agreement with Ferrari before the start of last season, making use of a break clause in his 1+1 contract with Mercedes.
The seven-time champion joined one of the most storied racing teams in history over the winter, completing a "dream" move for the driver.
Since then, Hamilton has struggled to find success, not scoring a win or podium other than a Sprint race win in China.
Despite the poor results, Wolff still believes that Hamilton made a valid decision.
