DETROIT -- The Detroit Tigers recalled right-handed pitcher Keider Montero from Triple-A Toledo before Wednesday’s series finale with the New York Mets.

Montero takes the roster spot of right-hander Chris Paddack, who was placed on the bereavement list. Paddack told reporters Tuesday he planned to step away for three days, although players may be granted up to seven days.

Montero, 25, has bounced regularly between Toledo and Detroit this season. He’s 4-3 with a 4.66 ERA (5.05 FIP) in 73 1/3 innings at the MLB level. He was demoted to Toledo on July 26 after a string of three rough starts under five innings .

Montero will work out of the bullpen and is available immediately, manager A.J. Hinch said. He has not pitched since Aug. 28.
