A section of Route 3 in Clifton was closed Sept. 3 after a truck spilled cooking oil on the roadway.

The Clifton Police Department stated that the eastbound portion of the highway between Bloomfield Avenue and Main Avenue would be partially closed "for an extended period of time" due to the spill. Police urged travelers in the area to plan an alternate route if possible.

No crashes or injuries were reported as of 1:20 p.m., and the spill did not result in any danger to the public, police said. However, heavy traffic delays are expected as an investigation into the incident continues.

Additional agencies responding to the scene include the Clifton Fire Department and New Jersey Department of Transportation, along with numerous public health officials.
