HAMILTON TOWNSHIP — A woman who was staying in a tent on private property along Leipzig Avenue near the Atlantic City Race Course was arrested last week after she allegedly brandished an ax and punched a police officer.
Shiryle L. Seyler was charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, unlawful possession of a weapon and resisting arrest.
Officers were performing outreach at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 26 when they encountered Seyler, police said Wednesday in a news release. Seyler allegedly became erratic, began yelling at officers and brandished an ax.
She eventually dropped the weapon, but as officers attempted to secure it and move it out of her reach, Seyler struck an officer in the face with a closed fist, police said.
