SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) -- It is the first day of school for the Syracuse City School District, which means the next phase of Mayor Ben Walsh's school zone traffic enforcement program is in full swing.

The speed cameras, located near Syracuse schools, are officially turned on. The Dietrich family, who live near Henninger High School, said it is about time speeding drivers are held accountable by the city after witnessing cars fly by their home on Vann Street.

"I'll be honest with you, it's every second of every day, and I was out here, doing some weeds, and I felt a gut feeling, and I took a couple of steps away and boom…accident," Charles Dietrich, a concerned Syracuse resident, said.
