BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — The Education Data Initiative reports since 2011, the annual cost of tuition for law school has climbed from $32,000 to more than $46,000 last year.

With dreams of one day becoming a lawyer, an 18-year-old Western Kentucky student is looking to offset those costs through her own business.

Kat Johns has been baking ever since she was 3 years old, going through pounds of butter each day.

“I had to start buying 4-pound boxes," Johns said.

Now a student at WKU, where she's pursuing a triple major, she’s putting those skills to use through her own micro bakery, Gavel & Grain .

“This week I’ve made 50 cookies, give or take," Johns said.
