A Derby man whose blood alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit was arrested when he was seen driving 112 miles per hour on Route 8, according to state police.

State police said a driver in a Jeep Grand Cherokee was speeding as he approached a trooper who was patrolling Route 8 North near exit 2B in Bridgeport just after 11:30 p.m. Thursday, then he passed the state trooper.

The trooper sped up to try and catch up with the Jeep, which was going more than 100 miles per hour and gaining distance, state police said, and the trooper saw the driver going up to 112 miles per hour before he slowed down.

The trooper turned on the emergency lights and sirens and the driver stopped near exit 6 in Trumbull.
