MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — Divaunte Kartrell Young, 24, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison and three years of supervised release for illegally possessing a firearm as a felon. The verdict came after a federal jury trial, announced Acting U.S. Attorney Joseph H. Thompson.
Thompson emphasized that "career criminals are not in charge of Minnesota," highlighting Young's attempt to bribe his way out of accountability after threatening a Rochester woman with a gun.
In spring 2023, Young spent a day with the victim, who had recently met him, running errands in Rochester. When the victim refused to drive Young to the Twin Cities, he revealed a gun and made threatening statements. The victim fled, leaving Young with her car and later contacted the police. Officers found Young asleep in the car wi
