Gone, but not gone…

As I typed out the date for this column, a chill ran down my spine — and it was pretty much the first time I’ve actually felt cool all summer (thank you boys and girls, I’m here all week!).

But, I jest.

It was, as it is every year, the utter counfoundment that comes with the realization that yes, once again, summer has slipped through my sweaty fingertips.

And despite the fact that we all know summer doesn’t technically bid us a fond farewell until the autumnal equinox, which, this year, arrives Sept. 22, we can’t escape the feeling that summer disappears as soon as the first bells of a new school year ring out.
