CHESAPEAKE, Va. — A man was taken into custody in Moyock on Wednesday after stabbing a woman in Chesapeake, the Currituck County Sheriff's Office said.

Investigators said they were called to the 500 block of Independence Parkway in Chesapeake around 11:41 a.m., where they found a woman with a laceration wound. The victim told police she had been cut by an unknown man.

The suspect was described as a white man in his 20s with curly hair, possibly wearing a "speckled" shirt.

Authorities in Currituck County urged residents to avoid the Moyock Commons shopping center on Wednesday afternoon during the active law enforcement situation. The Currituck County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were on scene near the Food Lion and asked the public to steer clear of the area until further notice.
