A Middletown man was killed Saturday when his car rolled over and struck a sign on Interstate 81 in Frederick County.

At 8:08 a.m., Ronald E. Paul, 64, was heading northbound at mile marker 311 in a 2003 Toyota Camry when he attempted to pass another vehicle and lost control of the car, according to a Virginia State Police (VSP) media release. The Camry veered into the southbound lanes and rolled over before striking a sign.

Paul was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. He was not wearing a seat belt, according to the release.
