REDFORD TOWNSHIP, MI – Several government buildings had a brief scare after a citizen showed up with a grenade.

According to the Redford Township Police Department, the citizen brought the grenade in for disposal on Wednesday, forcing the Redford Township Police Department, Township Hall, and 17th District Court to be quickly secured.

The threat lasted less than an hour as steps were taken “out of an abundance of caution” until the Michigan State Police Bomb Squad responded.

MSP investigated and discovered the device to be an inert military ordinance. The device was taken by MSP.

“If you find what you believe to be any form of explosive, DO NOT touch it or bring it to the police department,” a statement said.
