ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Drivers will soon see lower speeds on some major thoroughfares in Decatur.

The Decatur City Commission, at its Sept. 2 meeting, approved lower speed limits for Scott Boulevard, College Avenue, South Candler Street, Clairemont Avenue and a portion of Commerce Drive.

The speed limit on Scott Boulevard will be reduced from 40 mph to 35, and on the other roads from 35 to 30.

“Reducing speed limits on state roads within the city of Decatur directly supports the Decatur Safe Streets Safety Action Plan by addressing one of the leading contributing factors to severe and fatal crashes – excessive vehicle speed,” Assistant City Manager Cara Scharer said.
