HARRISBURG, Ill. (WSIL) -- A burn ban is now in effect within the city limits of Harrisburg, ordered by Harrisburg Fire Chief John Gunning on Wednesday.
The Illinois State Fire Marshal has reported drought and abnormally dry conditions are continuing across parts of Illinois, which has increased the risk of fire as corn and bean fields dry out ahead of harvest.
Residents are urged to avoid burning during dry, windy conditions and to properly extinguish cigarettes, never tossing them from a vehicle.
"Let’s work together to keep our communities and farmland safe this season," said the Illinois State Fire Marshal.
