TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - Florida Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladapo announced Florida’s decision to become the first state to eliminate vaccine mandates in schools on Wednesday.
Now, state health and education organizations are reacting to the announcement.
The Florida Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics issued a statement on Wednesday saying every family should have access to immunizations to keep their community healthy.
“For many kids, the best part of school is being with friends, sharing space, playing on the playground and learning together,” the statement read. “Close contact makes it easy for contagious diseases to spread quickly. That’s why many schools require routine child immunizations.”
