AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - We have new updates on the number of school resource officers in Aiken County.

This follows South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster’s announcement of an initiative to provide school resource officers in every school.

What do test scores tell us about South Carolina schools?

New test results show fewer than two-thirds of students in the state are reading at their grade level, and fewer than half are at their grade level in math.

The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office says it’s receiving two new positions through state funding.

The sheriff has 180 days to fill the new positions.

In the city of Aiken, the Department of Public Safety says there is one officer assigned to each high school and middle school.
