“I owned a bar and a restaurant, and a cement company, when I was married,” my friend Sarah told me. I said wow. “Yeah,” she nodded. “We had a lot goin’ on. Then when I got divorced, I gave up a whole bunch of things.”

A pause. “I went to work in a bar. I didn’t have to do payroll, write the checks, do the taxes, deal with employees, I could spend my money any way I wanted, I didn’t get calls from people asking stupid expletive all the time.” Another pause. “I could sleep at night!” She laughed.
