COLUMBIA, S.C. — North Charleston Police confirm they've joined the investigation into how two women ended up being found dead in a Sumter County field last month.
The agency said Wednesday afternoon they are assisting the Sumter County Sheriff's Department in the killings of 38-year-old Kristen N. Grissom of North Charleston and 35-year-old Christine Marie McAbee of Walterboro. The victims are believed to have known each other.
Deputies responded to Richbow Road near Rembert around 1:17 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 8, after a landowner discovered their bodies in a clearing.
Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker confirmed that McAbee’s death as a homicide caused by a gunshot wound. However, Grissom's caused of death could not be determined initially and was awaiting toxicology reports.
