Montana officials are lifting fishing restrictions on the Blackfoot River and upper Rock Creek, starting Thursday.
“Due to shorter days and longer nights resulting in cooler water temperatures, fishing restrictions will be lifted on the Blackfoot River and upper Rock Creek effective Thursday, Sept. 4,” a Sept. 3 press release from Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks stated. “Water temperatures have routinely been below criteria and FWP expects the temperatures to remain cool.”
The Rock Creek restrictions had applied from Stoney Creek up to the confluence of the West and Middle forks.
Despite cooling temperatures, the Blackfoot River is still experiencing near-record low water levels, and an ongoing heat wave has broken daily temperature records in Missoula for the first two days of the month
