MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- Charred mountains can be spotted near the small community of Raymond in Madera County.

It's just south of where two fires, just miles apart, started burning on Tuesday evening in neighboring Mariposa County.

"They are close enough together that we are sharing the resources between the two fires," Madera-Mariposa-Merced CAL FIRE Battalion Chief Mike Houk said.

Houk says about 150 personnel got to work.

Crews near and far, including Ventura County, are helping.

"We had up to 15 engines, two crews, six dozers, four water tankers. Assistance from Mariposa County fire, Madera, Merced, Chowchilla City," Houk said.

He says the challenges lie in the hard-to-reach terrain.
