ZEELAND, Mich. (WILX) - A nearly $73 million investment is coming to Michigan by way of Japan.

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer made the announcement Wednesday, saying Japanese company JR Automation has agreed to build its global HQ in Zeeland.

That’s 25 miles south of Grand Rapids.

The company already has facilities in Michigan, including nearby Holland.

The governor’s office says the investment will create 150 jobs alongside the 941 employees already in the state.

JR Automation is owned by Hitachi and operates in many industries, including medical, warehousing, energy and consumer goods.

Its Zeeland facility will combine existing facilities to increase productivity.

The announcement comes as the governor is on a trade mission to Japan and Singapore.
