LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - On Sept. 3, 1855, the Michigan Female College opened in Lansing.
It was one of the first schools in the state dedicated to higher education for women.
By 1867, the school had welcomed over 1,000 young women from Michigan and nine other states, paving the way for educating women in the Midwest.
