AMSTERDAM — The first step to set up a series of demolitions planned across the city has been taken through the authorization of a $72,000 contract with an environmental firm that will provide required air monitoring and compliance services during the grant funded project.

The Common Council on Tuesday approved the contract with Ambient Environmental Inc. as part of the planned demolition of up to 23 blighted buildings.
