NORTH RIDGEVILLE, Ohio — Voters in North Ridgeville will decide in November whether to approve a proposed income tax increase expected to generate $6.3 million in city revenue each year.

City leaders say the measure is aimed at helping to prevent projected deficits that could exceed $10.6 million by 2031, which might otherwise force cuts to services or hikes in fees. But for many residents, the question is how the change would affect their personal finances.

Officials say the plan—which would raise the income tax from 1% to 1.75%—could actually lower the overall tax burden for most residents, thanks to a simultaneous increase in the city’s commuter tax credit.
