BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- Spirit Airlines will discontinue service at Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport on Oct. 3.
According to a statement from Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport, the airline is also ending its service at 10 other airports in the country following a second bankruptcy, which was filed in August.
A spokesperson with Spirit Airlines confirmed with the airport that customers who already have flights booked after Oct. 3 will be notified via email about the change, and they will receive information on how to get refunds. Customers can contact Spirit Airlines through their website.
Spirit Airlines began service in Birmingham in Oct. 2024 with nonstop flights to Ft. Lauderdale, later adding nonstop flights to Newark and Detroit.
