The parents of a teenage girl who was struck by a hit-and-run driver in the Carmel Valley area spoke out on Wednesday.

The incident happened shortly after a Torrey Pines High School football game on Aug 22 in the parking lot of 3500 Del Mar Heights Road.

“Two cars were involved, and as my daughter and her friends used the crosswalk, the first car accelerated into the group, hitting our daughter, inches away from driving over her head and narrowly missing her friends,” said Emma, the victim’s mother.

The victim was treated at a local hospital for her injuries, according to the San Diego Police Department.

Her mother believes the teen could have lost her life that night.
