WASHINGTON TWP. – Some runners don’t mind wet conditions and cool temperatures.

But Wednesday, runners, coaches and spectators alike couldn’t wait to exit Stony Creek Metropark – and for more than one reason.

With the start times of the Macomb Area Conference Red Division Jamboree No. 1 beginning after 7 p.m. on a weeknight in September – not to mention rain showers and drizzles and rapidly dropping temperatures – many of the runners in the boys cross-country race crossed the line after 8 p.m. when it was already dusk out and difficult for people to see clearly or for photographers to shoot in the darkened scenery.

Teams and coaches also abruptly took down their tents and made a mad dash to get out of there, as many attendees departed the park after dark.
