An elderly woman was killed Thursday night when police say she was caught in the crossfire of an argument near her southwest Birmingham home.
“This is unacceptable,” said Birmingham Police Chief Michael Pickett.
“It’s unacceptable in Birmingham. It’s unacceptable anywhere for an elderly woman to be sitting on her porch and her life be taken away from her.”
“We’re literally not going to let up until the person is in custody,” the chief said. “The city’s going to feel that until we get that person in custody.”
Sgt. LaQuitta Wade said the shots rang out just before 8 p.m. Wednesday in the 3200 block of block of Balsam Avenue.
Officers found the victim - who is believed to be in her 80s - unresponsive in between her front door and her enclosed porch.
