A fire temporarily shut down a McDonald’s restaurant Wednesday afternoon at the Northampton Crossings shopping center in Lower Nazareth Township.

Hecktown Fire Company Chief Keith Brooks told lehighvalleylive.com flames ignited just before 2 p.m. at the eatery, 3708 Easton Nazareth Highway, and all patrons and employees evacuated on their own.

Crews found a small fire burning behind a veneer wall outside the building. Initial witness reports suggested a cigarette was burning inside the wall, according to the fire chief.

Firefighters were able to keep the flames from spreading and extinguished the blaze within 30 minutes, Brooks said.

There were no reported injuries.

Fire stations from Palmer Township and Hanover Township, Northampton County, also responded to the scene.
